The power was out at the airport. The airline assured me my flight would still leave on time, but the woman at Hudson News wouldn’t sell me a pack of gum because the register was down. I’ll pay cash, I told her and held out a $20 bill. When she said she couldn’t make change I told her she could keep it. Please, I begged. I can’t fly without gum; I need it to clear my ears.
